ಹೊಸ ಚುಟುಕು ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಬಂಧಿಸುವ ಬಗ್ಗೆ

ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಪುಟಗಳನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಈ ಪುಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಚುಟುಕು ಪುಟಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ನೋಡಬಹುದು. ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಒಂದು ಅಥವಾ ಎರಡು ಸಾಲುಗಳ ಲೇಖನಗಳಿಂದ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ರೀತಿಯ ಉಪಯೋಗವಿಲ್ಲವೆಂಬುದು ನನ್ನ ಅನಿಸಿಕೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು ಕೆಲವುಗ ಸಮಯದವರೆಗೆ (ಉದಾ: ೧ ತಿಂಗಳು) ನಿರ್ಬಂಧಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಹೇಗೆ? ಇದರಿಂದ ಹೊಸ ಚುಟುಕು ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಕುವವರಿಗೆ ಸರಿಯಾದ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಸಿಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿ, ಉತ್ತಮವಾದ ಲೇಖನಗಳಷ್ಟೇ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರುವಂತಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ~ ಹರೀಶ ^{/ ಚರ್ಚೆ / ಕಾಣಿಕೆಗಳು} ೦೬:೦೭, ೮ ಫೆಬ್ರುವರಿ ೨೦೧೬ (UTC)

Updates to wiki search auto completion are arriving 10 March

The completion suggester beta feature will become the default at the first group of wikis on Thursday, 10 March. This initial rollout will start with some of the smaller wikis to ensure the change happens in an organized way. The remaining wikis will receive the update on Wednesday, 16 March. This update brings three major improvements to search. Improved search result ordering, a tolerance for a small number of spelling errors, and suggests fewer typos.

Since December 2015, 19,000 editors have already opted into the completion suggester beta feature. Contributors are encouraged to try out the feature ahead of the release. Please share any comments on the Completion Suggester discussion page in any language.

	೧.ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪ್ರತಿಗಿಂತ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಪ್ರತಿಯು ವಿವರವಾಗಿದೆ. ಕನ್ನಡದ ವಿಕಿಯ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿರಬೇಕಾದದ್ದು ಆದ್ಯತೆಯ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಬೇಕು. ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಪ್ರತಿ WMFಗೆ ಹೋಗುವುದರಿಂದ ವಿವರವಾಗಿ ಬರೆದಿರುವಂತೆ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಕಿಯವರೇ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಸಡ್ಡೆ ತೋರುವಂತಿದೆ. ೨.೨೦೧೬-೧೭ರ ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಕಿಯ ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆ ಗುರಿಗಳೇನು ಎಂದು ನೇರವಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿಲ್ಲ (ಗುರಿಗಳ ಮೇಲ್ನೋಟ). ಇದರ ಪರಿಣಾಮ - ಯೋಜನೆಯನ್ನು ಓದಿಕೊಂಡು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರೂ ಅವರಿಗೆ ತಕ್ಕಹಾಗೆ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಿಸುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಗೊಂದಲಗಳೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, CISವತಿಯಿಂದಲೇ ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆ ಗುರಿಗಳನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರೆ ಗೊಂದಲಕ್ಕೆ ಅವಕಾಶವಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದು WMFನ ಪರಿಶೀಲನೆಗೂ ಅನುಕೂಲಕರ. ೩.ನಾನು ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡ ಹಾಗೆ, ಮೂರು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಗುರಿಗಳಿವೆ - ಅ)ಹೊಸ ಸಂಪಾದಕರನ್ನು ಸೇರಿಸುವುದು ಆ)ಹೊಸ ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು ತುಂಬುವುದು ಹಾಗೂ ಇ)ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಸಮುದಾಯವನ್ನು ಬಲಪಡಿಸುವುದು. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ನಿತಿನ್ ಹೆಗ್ಡೆಯವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ ಹಾಗೆ ಲೇಖನಗಳ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಆದ್ಯತೆಯಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಇದು ಈಗ ಹೆಸರಿಸಿರುವ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳಿಂದ ಸಾಧ್ಯವೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ಸುಧಾರಿಸಲು ಲೇಖನಗಳ ಪರಿಶೀಲನೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು. ಹೊಸ ಸಂಪಾದಕರ ಹಾಗೆ, ಹೊಸ ಪರಿಶೀಲಕರನ್ನೂ (Reviewers) ಸೇರಿಸಿದರೆ ಹೇಗೆ? ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಲೇಖನ ಬರೆಯಲು ಸಮಯವನ್ನು ಮುಡುಪಾಗಿಡಬೇಕು. ಇಂತಹವರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟ. ಆದರೆ, ಲೇಖನ ಓದಿ ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ ನೀಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಬರೆಯುವಷ್ಟು ಸಮಯ ಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ. "ಲೇಖನ ಪರಿಶೀಲಕ" ಎಂಬುದನ್ನೂ ಒಂದು ಹೊಸ ಪಾತ್ರವಾಗಿಸಿ, ಅವರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವುದನ್ನು ಗುರಿಯಾಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರೆ, ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಲು ಸಹಾಯವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ (ಇದು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ವಿಕಿಯ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಎಂಬುದು ಗೊತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಪ್ರಾಶಸ್ತ್ಯ ಕೊಡಬೇಕೆಂಬುದೇ ಆಶಯ. ಸಂಪಾದಕರೇ ಪರಿಶೀಲನೆಯನ್ನೂ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟಸಾಧ್ಯ). ಕೆಲವರಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಕಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗಿಯಾಗುವ ಆಸೆಯಿದ್ದರೂ ಸಮಯದ ಅಭಾವದಿಂದಲೋ ಇನ್ನಿತರ ಅಡಚಣೆಗಳಿಂದಲೋ ಲೇಖನ ಬರೆಯುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದಿರಬಹುದು. ಅಂತಹವರನ್ನು ಈ ಯೋಜನೆಯಡಿ ವಿಕಿಯ ಭಾಗವನ್ನಾಗಿಸಬಹುದು. --ವಿಶ್ವನಾಥ/Vishwanatha (ಚರ್ಚೆ) ೦೮:೧೪, ೨೧ ಮಾರ್ಚ್ ೨೦೧೬ (UTC)

A couple of months ago CIS-A2K published an Indic Wikipedia policies and guidelines handbook in order to support Indic Wikipedians to improve their policy portals. Before and after the publication of the handbook we talked to Indic Wikipedians and asked how should we go ahead with this works and these are the suggestions we have received so far:

1. Core content and other important policy pages should be created;
2. Regular policy discussions should take place which will help to collaborate understand a community's needs.

Train-the-Trainer and MediaWiki Training: Capacity building initiatives for the Wikimedia community

Like the previous years [1][2] CIS-A2K is planning for a capacity building activity for the Indic-language Wikimedia communities this year. This 3-4 day event, that is planned to be organized in Bengaluru, will include several parallel training sessions. The general sessions will broadly include:

• How to conduct Wikimedia outreach (workshops, GLAM activities, edit-a-thons)
• Ways to groom new contributors
• Advanced Wikipedia editing and Wikipedia policy and guidelines

Similarly, the MediaWiki training will include:

• MediaWiki - installation, analysis, understanding
• Working with MediaWiki
• How bots work on Wikimedia projects with an emphasis on pywikibot
• Bug triage, bug life cycle, raising a bug, fixing a bug
• General overview of FOSS, Openness, social media, Copyright, Creative Commons

We are looking forward to nominate yourself or nominate any other member of your community to participate in this event. We will be selecting the participants based on the community recommendation. We are looking forward to hearing your inputs on the program design and anything in particular that you would like to see.

Please note that the Wikimedians who have not attended the previous iterations of this training will be given more preference.

Train-the-Trainer 2016: Event details and invitation to apply

Greetings from CIS-A2K,

It gives us great pleasure to inform that the Train-the-Trainer 2016 programme organised by CIS-A2K is going to be held from 15-17 June, Bangalore.

Train-the-Trainer programme was conceptualised in order to bridge the gap between wiki volunteers/enthusiasts who would like to conduct off reach activities and have been discouraged due to non availability of resources and support. The three day residential event will include presentations by the participants regarding a plan to improve their wiki-projects, expert sessions about conducting effective outreach activities, best practices from the global wiki communities, revised grant structure of WMF, activities to understand WMF strategy and vision, understanding global metrics and coming up with a concrete plan by participants in association with A2K to improve their wiki-projects.

A2K invites Wikimedians to apply for this programme. Participants will be selected based on their on wiki and off wiki activities and their responses to the questions asked in the Google form. Selected participants are required to finish pre-work assigned to them without fail. Hi. I can see that this project has old JavaScript that needs to be updated. I would happily make the required updates myself, but I would have to – at least temporarily – become an admin here to do that (because the relevant pages are in the MediaWiki namespace). I have already made these updates on a number of other projects, so it would be very easy for me to do this. If no one does anything, some JavaScript-related tools will break later this year. Compact Language Links has been available as a beta-feature on all Wikimedia wikis since 2014. With compact language links enabled, users are shown a much shorter list of languages on the interlanguage link section of an article (see image). This will be enabled as a feature in the soon for all users, which can be turned on or off using a preference setting. Compact Language Links has been available as a beta-feature on all Wikimedia wikis since 2014. With compact language links enabled, users are shown a much shorter list of languages on the interlanguage link section of an article (see image). Based on several factors, this shorter list of languages is expected to be more relevant for them and valuable for finding similar content in a language known to them. More information about compact language links can be found in the documentation.

From today onwards, compact language links has been enabled as the default listing of interlanguage links on this wiki. However, using the button at the bottom, you will be able to see a longer list of all the languages the article has been written in. The setting for this compact list can be changed by using the checkbox under User Preferences -> Appearance -> Languages

The compact language links feature has been tested extensively by the Wikimedia Language team, which developed it. However, in case there are any problems or other feedback please let us know on the project talk page. It is to be noted that on some wikis the presence of an existing older gadget that was used for a similar purpose may cause an interference for compact language list. We would like to bring this to the attention of the admins of this wiki. Full details are on this phabricator ticket (in English).

Wikipedia to the Moon: invitation to edit

Three weeks ago, you were invited to vote on how to take Wikipedia articles to the Moon. Community voting is over and the winning idea is to send all ‘’featured articles and lists’’ to the Moon. IMPORTANT: Admin activity review

Hello. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc) was adopted by global community consensus in 2013. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on smaller wikis. To the best of our knowledge, your wiki does not have a formal process for removing "advanced rights" from inactive accounts. This means that the stewards will take care of this according to the admin activity review.

We have determined that the following users meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for more than 2 years):

1. Shushruth (bureaucrat, administrator)

These users will receive a notification soon, asking them to start a community discussion if they want to retain some or all of their rights. If the users do not respond, then their advanced rights will be removed by the stewards.

However, if you as a community would like to create your own activity review process superseding the global one, want to make another decision about these inactive rights holders, or already have a policy that we missed, then please notify the stewards on Meta-Wiki so that we know not to proceed with the rights review on your wiki. Sakal Bharati fonts

CDAC has released standardized fonts for all scripts of India, namely Sakal Bharati. It has very clear rendering of Kannada fonts. Can we test it and recommend it on Kannada font help section? @Frimelle: Thank you for pitching in! Request to add Kannada to the terminator has been pending with Magnus for more than two months now and I hope he would enable it soon. When people search for persons like Surjit Paatar on knwiki, information from Wikidata item would be useful for creating entries in our knwiki here like it is currently shows up in orwiki. Except Generic and Authority Control, I could see more than 50% of other property labels are localized. Plus, I hope that enabling ArticlePlaceholder would encourage community members to involve more in translation. The Editing team is planning to change the name of the “ಪುಟವನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿ” button to “ಪುಟವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸು” and “ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸು”. “ಪುಟವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸು” will be used when you create a new page. “ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸು” will be used when you change an existing page. The names will be consistent in all editing environments.[೧][೨]

This change will probably happen during the week of 30 August 2016. The change will be announced in Tech News when it happens.

If you are fluent in a language other than English, please check the status of translations at translatewiki.net for “ಪುಟವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸು” and “ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸು”.

The main reason for this change is to avoid confusion for new editors. Repeated user research studies with new editors have shown that some new editors believed that “ಪುಟವನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿ” would save a private copy of a new page in their accounts, rather than permanently publishing their changes on the web. It is important for this part of the user interface to be clear, since it is difficult to remove public information after it is published. We believe that the confusion caused by the “ಪುಟವನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿ” button increases the workload for experienced editors, who have to clean up the information that people unintentionally disclose, and report it to the functionaries and stewards to suppress it. Clarifying what the button does will reduce this problem.

Beyond that, the goal is to make all the wikis and languages more consistent, and some wikis made this change many years ago. The Legal team at the Wikimedia Foundation supports this change. Making the edit interface easier to understand will make it easier to handle licensing and privacy questions that may arise.

Any help pages or other basic documentation about how to edit pages will also need to be updated, on-wiki and elsewhere. On wiki pages, you can use the wikitext codes {{int:Publishpage}} and {{int:Publishchanges}} to display the new labels in the user's preferred language. For the language settings in your account preferences, these wikitext codes produce “ಪುಟವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸು” and “ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸು”.

Why Rio Olympics 2016 Matters for India

While India struggled to win medals, ending its tally with just two medals, there had been some spectacular performances. Abhinav Bindra, Jitu Rai were only marginally short at conceiving medals, while Saina-Bopana reached till the Bronze medal match, Depika Kumari lost to the world's best. At the most, Indian Hockey contingent reached the knock-out stage after so many years.

The visual editor will be enabled on this wiki in some days

As per previous announcements earlier this year, the visual editor (ದೃಶ್ಯ ಸಂಪಾದಕ) will be enabled at this Wikipedia in some days. It allows people to edit articles as if they were using a typical word processor. Here's a quick explanation of what is going to happen: you can find a more detailed one, with pictures, at mediawiki.org.

What's changing?

In the new system, you get a single edit tab which follows your preferences, and that therefore will launch the wikitext editor or the visual editor depending on which one you opened the last (Remember my last editor).
This applies to everyone who edited recently, including anonymous users.

How do I switch to the other editor then?

Buttons on the toolbars of both editors were added months ago so that you can switch from one to the other every time you want to, without losing your changes and without having to save first.
The button, located on the right side of the toolbar, looks like square brackets ([[ ]]) in the visual editor, and like a pencil () in the wikitext editor.

Are there other options available?

Yes. You can choose whether you want:

• Always give me the visual editor if possible (if you temporarily switch to the wikitext editor through the button on the toolbar, the system won't remember it; also, it only applies to namespaces where the visual editor is available).
• Always give me the source editor (if you temporarily switch to the visual editor through the button on the toolbar, the system won't remember it)
• Show me both editor tabs (a system in place at multiple wikis since 2013. You are familiar with this option if you have been using the visual editor here.)
  • Please note: all the users will always have the opportunity to switch to the other editor via buttons on the toolbars, for occasional edits.

How do I set my preference?

• If you want to try or to stay in the new system: you don't need to do anything.
• If you had explicitly disabled the visual editor in the past and want to keep it disabled: you don't need to do anything.
• All the registered users have a dropdown menu in the Editing tab of their Preferences (ಸಂಪಾದನೆ --> Editing mode:), where they can choose from. This only needs to be done once. Don't forget to save ;)
  • Users with the visual editor disabled need to re-enable it if they're interested in accessing that menu!
• People who use the visual editor regularly will see a pop-up (only once after the single edit tab system is introduced), and they can choose their favorite setting there. Of course, they can change their mind at any time just like the others, and pick a different setting from their Preferences.
  • Anonymous users who have used the visual editor recently will also be able to choose which editor they want to edit with.
  • Reminder: all the users will always have the opportunity to switch to the other editor via buttons on the toolbars, for occasional edits.

• Please spread the word about this major change in any way that you deem appropriate for this community, by linking to this announcement elsewhere, putting up a site notice, etc. Please note it will affect all the registered users at first, and after some days it will reach logged-out contributors as well if no major technical issues have arisen. Hey Elitre (WMF), thank you for the update and explaining things in detail. Will surely get back about any anomalies we experience in the transition. Given the low bandwidth Internet with most editors in our region(Karnataka), a general feedback is sometimes regarding the slowness in loading Visual Editor. Would request Pavanaja, Omshivaprakash and the community for any other feedback. I see that there are few strings in Visual Editor core that are yet to be localized to Kannada which I will go ahead and do it. Since this is a major change which affects every editor here, I think putting up a site-notice might help to spread the word. I've briefly written about this change in below section in Kannada requesting community to provide feedback and to spreading the word about this change and also to review translations of Visual Editor core on Translatewiki and Userguide on Mediawiki. Csyogi, let me start by saying that I'm really grateful for your prompt response! About the slowness, we know that people may have different experiences depending on where in the world they are based. Caching mechanisms usually mean that after loading an article for the first time, it will load faster the other times. (But as my update above says, people who don't feel like they can or want to use the visual editor have several ways to avoid it.) Greetings from Wikimedia India! Wiki Loves Monuments in India is an upcoming photo competition, part of the bigger Wiki Loves Monuments 2016. We welcome you all to be part of it, as participants and as volunteers. Machine translation support enabled today for Content Translation

Hello, machine translation support for Content Translation (beta feature) has now been extended and enabled for users of Kannada Wikipedia using Yandex. It can be used when translating Wikipedia articles into Kannada with Content Translation. To start using this service, please choose ‘’Yandex.Translate’’ from the ‘’Automatic Translation’’ dropdown menu that you see on the sidebar after you start translating an article. Please note, machine translation is available from all the languages that are supported by Yandex.Translate, but Content Translation can still be used in the usual manner for translating from all languages, with or without machine translation support.

Wikimedia Foundation’s Legal team and Yandex had collaborated earlier to work out an agreement that allows the use of Yandex.Translate without compromising Wikipedia’s policy of attribution of rights, privacy of our users and brand representation. Since November 2015, Yandex machine translation has been used for articles translated for Wikipedias in many languages. Details about Yandex translation services, including a summary of the contract are available on this page. More information about the machine translation services in Content Translation is available on this page. We request you to kindly take a look at these pages.

We have tested the service for use on the Kannada Wikipedia, but there could be unknown problems that we are not aware of yet. Please do let us know on our Project Talk page or phabricator if you face any problems using Content Translation. Wiki Loves Earth (WLE) is an international photography competition on Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation. Wikimedia India is running this competition in India. We are delighted to share our early success, within 15 days we have received more than 15000 images, averaging a thousand images per-day. Some of the images received have helped us improve the picture quality of India’s flora and fauna, which are then being shared on Wikipedia and its sister projects.

India’s natural diversity remains incredible your support and suggestions would help us record images of India’s unique eco-systems. We seek your support to make this event reach new heights. India has a vibrant photography community and we hope to significantly increase Indian Natural heritage related photographs on Commons through this contest campaign.
