ಹೊಲೆಯ
ಹೊಲೆಯ ಭಾರತದ ಒಂದು ಪರಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಜಾತಿ, ಮತ್ತು ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಇಂದಿನ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ,[೧][೨] ಕೇರಳ, ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ, ತಮಿಳುನಾಡು, ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಮಧ್ಯ ಪ್ರದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದೆ.[೩][೪]
ಒಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರು, ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ದಖ್ಖನ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿದ ಭೂಮಾಲೀಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಭಾರತೀಯ ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಮಧ್ಯಯುಗದಲ್ಲಿ, ಇವರು ಪತನ ಹೊಂದಿದ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳ ಯೋಧ ವರ್ಗಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದರು, ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಇವರನ್ನು ಜಾತಿಭ್ರಷ್ಟರೆಂದು ಮಾಡಿ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಹೊಲ ಪದವು ಕೃಷಿಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಹೊಲೆಯ ಪದವು ಹೊಲ ಪದದಿಂದ ವ್ಯುತ್ಪನ್ನವಾಗಿದೆ.[೧][೫]
ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ, ಹೊಲೆಯರು ಕೆನರಾ, ಕೊಡಗು ಮತ್ತು ಮೈಸೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಇವರು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಕೆಳವರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಾಗಿದ್ದರು, ಮತ್ತು ಇವರನ್ನು ಇವರು ಇದ್ದ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಯಜಮಾನನು ಮಾರಾಟ ಮಾಡಬಹುದಾಗಿತ್ತು.[೧][೨][೬]
