ಕೆಲವು ಪದಗಳನ್ನು ತಾವು ಆಂಗ್ಲ ವಿಕಿಗೆ ಸಂಪರ್ಕವಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೀರಿ. Image Upload[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

Hi!.. Just a suggestion.

When you upload images in public domain, I would suggest doing it into Wikimedia Commons rather than here at the kn wikipedia. This would help other projects to directly use them instead of uploading locally.

The easiest way of doing it is to use this tool called commons helper. It converts all the relevant information into form suitable at commons. Once you have done it, you can tag the image at en wiki with {{subst:ncd|filename}} so that it can be deleted there.

ಗ್ರಹಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಲೇಖನ[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

ನಾನು ನಿಮಗಿಂತ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಮುಂಚೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಪಾದಕನಾಗಿರಬಹುದು....ಆದರೆ byte for byte ಪ್ರಾಯಶಃ ನನ್ನ ಎರಡರಷ್ಟು ಸಂಪಾದನೆ ತಾವು ಮಾಡಿರುವಿರಿ :-)

ಗ್ರಹಗಳ infoboxನಲ್ಲಿ ಅತೀ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ಲಿಂಕ್ ಕೊಡುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು. ಉದಾ. ಆಮ್ಲಜನಕ, ಸಮಭಾಜಕ ವೃತ್ತ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳು ನಮ್ಮ ವಿಕಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಲೇಬೇಕಾದ ಲೇಖನಗಳು ಎಂದು ನನ್ನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ. ಅವನ್ನು ನಾನು ಸದ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ en link ತಗೆದಿರುವೆ. ತಮ್ಮ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂತಹ ಲೇಖನಗಳು ಉದ್ಭವಿಸಲು ಇನ್ನೂ ಬಹಳ ಸಮಯವಾಗುತ್ತದೆಂದು ಅನಿಸಿದರೆ ತಾವು ವಾಪಸ್ಸು en linkಗೆ ಬದಲಿಸಬಹುದು. ಸದ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ಬಾಹ್ಯಾಕಾಶ ನೌಕೆ, ಇಂಗಾಲದ ಡೈಆಕ್ಸೈಡ್ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು stub ಆಗಿ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿರುವೆ.

Reply about redirect and interwikis[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

Hi!

Creating redirects is very easy. Start a new page that you want to create a redirect from (by typing the name into the search box). In this page type in the following

#REDIRECT [[name of page to be redirected to]]

For eg. if you want to redirect ಕ್ಷೀರ ಸಾಗರ to ಕ್ಷೀರಸಾಗರ, start the ಕ್ಷೀರ ಸಾಗರ page and type in #REDIRECT [[ಕ್ಷೀರಸಾಗರ]] into it and save. It will become a redirect page.

In my opinion redirects are very important to prevent people from unnecessarily wasting time creating duplicate articles. So everytime I create a new page, I also create redirects from all the common variants of that name that I can think of. For eg. I created redirects from ಯುಎಸ್‍ಎ, ಯು ಎಸ್ ಎ, ಅಮೇರಿಕ ದೇಶ, ಅಮೇರಿಕಾ ದೇಶ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ to ಅಮೇರಿಕಾ ಸಂಯುಕ್ತ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನ. It will save a lot of editors a lot of time in the long run. Also, many people will be wikilinking from whatever name they think is common when creating articles. So all such wikilinks will work as soon as they are created.

If you want to check which pages already redirect to any given page, you can find it in the ಉಪಕರಣ toolbar in the left, under the link ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಯಾವ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ.

When I create interwikis, I just copy paste them from the equivalent english article. Then one can manually type in the actual en interwiki in the list according to alphabetical order. Also there are a lot of bots working on creating interwikis. So even if you add 1-2 interwikis, they'll take care of the rest sooner or later.

Sorry about replying in english. I'd have taken an hour to type the above in kannada as my typing speed is quite slow :-(

Astronomy ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣ reply[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

I looked around a bit in the english wikipedia to get some idea about how they have categorized these subjects. I think we can follow the same guidelines that they have used. Basically, astronomy contains subjects that are mostly natural occurences, and also subjects related to studying these occurences and objects. This will include all planets/natural-satellites/stars, etc. and astronomers, measurments, theories related to these subjects, etc.

Outer-space category includes subjects related to space exploration, spacecraft, and such things. So in summary, we can probably do the following changes:

We can have one category named ಬಾಹ್ಯಾಕಾಶ (and have ಅಂತರಿಕ್ಷ category link to this one, since I think ಬಾಹ್ಯಾಕಾಶ sounds more generic than ಅಂತರಿಕ್ಷ).
Move ಅಂತರಿಕ್ಷ ಅನ್ವೇಷಣೆ (probably also rename it to ಬಾಹ್ಯಾಕಾಶ ಅನ್ವೇಷಣೆ), ಬಾಹ್ಯಾಕಾಶ ದೂರದರ್ಶಕಗಳು, etc. into the ಬಾಹ್ಯಾಕಾಶ category.
Move ಕ್ಷೀರಪಥ, ಗ್ರಹ, ನಕ್ಷತ್ರ, ಧೂಮಕೇತು, ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಕೂಟ, ಗ್ರಹಣ, etc. into ಖಗೋಳಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ category.
Have ಖಗೋಳಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ and ಬಾಹ್ಯಾಕಾಶ as subcategories inside each other (since it is easy to get confused as to which category some article will belong to, having these subcategories will ease navigation to a good extent.)
Some subjects (such as ಹಬಲ್ ದೂರದರ್ಶಕ, ಲಗ್ರಾಂಜಿನ ಬಿಂದು, etc.) may end up falling under both ಬಾಹ್ಯಾಕಾಶ and ಖಗೋಳಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ categories. Since there is no clear line between some of these different subject areas, it should be okay.

If there is anyway I can help out, please let me know. I appreciate all the work you are doing to organize these articles. I think it will make these pages better accessible by everyone, instead of being scattered under many confusing categorizations.

I agree that ಬಾಹ್ಯಾಕಾಶ should be the main category. I will put the category redirect template onto ವರ್ಗ:ಅಂತರಿಕ್ಷ. We can than move articles from there to the relevant categories as you have mentioned. Subcategorising ವರ್ಗ:ಬಾಹ್ಯಾಕಾಶ and ವರ್ಗ:ಖಗೋಳಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ under each other is a very good idea. Of course, some articles will be in both (I don't mind if all articles are in both!) as long as they are easily searchable by someone. Also, since there are a lot of very good articles in these categories (thanks to you mainly!), maybe we should add ಬಾಹ್ಯಾಕಾಶ category to the mainpage ವಿಶ್ವಕೋಶ part beside ಭೂಗೋಳ. I think you should do the article reclassification as you have a better idea of under which category each article should go. Also, currently there is no article called ಬಾಹ್ಯಾಕಾಶ but there is a stub by the name ಅಂತರಿಕ್ಷ. So you can decide on which one should redirect to which and classify that article too. Re regarding generation of interest[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

Hi! Those are some really good ideas that you have suggested. I agree that one of the most important reason that is holding back people is probably the difficulty of using a transliteration tool. A while ago, an user from the Nepal Bhasa wikipedia, Eukesh, suggested an automatic transliteration tool (see the discussion HERE). Since my technical knowledge is limited, I couldn't figure out how to implement it. It actually looks very good in their site (see this link and try editing a page there). It might help if we implement something like that here.

Your idea about building up skeletons of important articles is also really good. We could try that too. I am also not very optimistic... but we can try. I know for sure, that I'll be actively involved here for at least the next couple of years irrespective of whether this grows quickly or not... so we can work together on this and see how it works out.

Why don't you try out your main page welcome ideas at this editable test page - Wikipedia:Main page editable [Also take a look at an an anonymous editor's words in its talk page. He/she does have a point:-( ].I have uploaded the current main page there so we can work on it together. You can reply below this message so that the conversation stays in one place. I just wanted to bring to your notice that some of the new articles you created are duplicates. ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಾನ್ ಮತ್ತು ಋಣವಿದ್ಯುತ್ಕಣ; ಪ್ರೋಟಾನ್ ಮತ್ತು ಧನವಿದ್ಯುತ್ಕಣ for eg. Could you please merge them into a title that you think is appropriate and redirect the other?
Also, I noticed that you've tried to create Template:Unit of length and a few subpages. They require some weird parser functions which I've never been able to figure out and they don't seem to work here. Are you going to keep trying to fix them? Image issues[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

When the file is on commons, then it has to be edited in commons only. Only a copy of the page are displayed in all wikis but cannot be edited there - hence the appearance of a blank page. So you have to copy the license from commons. To go there, just click the link in "ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ವಿವರಣೆ ಪುಟವನ್ನೇ ಕೆಳಗೆ ತೋರಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ" in the box below the image.

Note that since the templates in commons might not work here, you might have to choose our license templates from ವರ್ಗ:ಚಿತ್ರ ಕೃತಿಸ್ವಾಮ್ಯ ಟ್ಯಾಗುಗಳು. I would suggest {{Cc-by-2.5}} template. You can then write a couple of sentences regarding which image this image was derived from, and a few sentences of explanations if you can.
