ಈ ಹಕ್ಕಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಸಾಕು ಕೋಳಿಯ ಸಂಬಂಧಿ. ಇವು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಭಾರತದ ಕಾಡುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡು ಬರುತ್ತವೆ.
ಗಂಡು ಕೋಳಿಯ ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೆಂಪು ಚೊಟ್ಟಿಯಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದರ ಮೈಮೇಲೆ ಕಪ್ಪು ಅಥವಾ ಬೂದು ಬಣ್ಣದ ಮಚ್ಚೆಗಳಿರುತ್ತವೆ.
