ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆ ಶಬ್ದವು ನಡತೆಯ ಒಂದು ಅಂಶವನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಋಜುತ್ವ, ಸತ್ಯಸಂಧತೆ, ಸಾಚಾತನ (ನಡತೆಯ ಸಾಚಾತನ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ) ಸಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕ ಹಾಗೂ ನೀತಿಯುತ ಗುಣಗಳೆಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಳ್ಳು ಹೇಳುವ, ಮೋಸಮಾಡುವ, ಕಳ್ಳತನದ ಗುಣ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಾರ್ಹವಾಗಿರುವುದು, ನಿಷ್ಠಾವಂತ, ನಿಷ್ಪಕ್ಷಪಾತ ಮತ್ತು ನಿಷ್ಕಪಟವಾಗಿರುವುದೂ ಸೇರಿದೆ.

ಅನೇಕ ಜನಾಂಗೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆಗೆ ಬೆಲೆಕೊಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.[೧][೨][೩][೪][೫] [೬]

ಆದರೆ, ಅತಿಯಾದ ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಶಿಸ್ತಿಲ್ಲದ ಮುಕ್ತಗ್ರಾಹಿಯಾಗಿರುವಿಕೆಯಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಕೆಲವರು ಗಮನಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.[೭] ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ, ಅವರ ಅಭುಪ್ರಾಯವನ್ನು ಕೇಳದಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಅಥವಾ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯೆಯು ಕ್ಷುಲ್ಲಕವಿರುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ, ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಇತರರ ನಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕವಾಗಿ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರೆ ಅವರನ್ನು ಅತಿ ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕರು ಎಂದು ಗ್ರಹಿಸಬಹುದು.
