Some currency designs are ineligible for copyright and are in the public domain. Others are copyrighted.
This restriction tag has been placed because currency designs and images of them may be subject to additional legal restrictions outside of copyright law including laws regarding counterfeiting, which may also apply, particularly when this image is used in printed form.
Caution: Independent of British copyright legislation, under the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981, Chapter 45, Section 18(1) [೧], "It is [a criminal] offence for any person [resident in the United Kingdom], unless the relevant authority has previously consented in writing, to reproduce on any substance whatsoever, and whether or not on the correct scale, any British currency note or any part of a British currency note." Reproductions on Wikipedia of banknotes or other currency notes of the Governor and Company of the Bank of England are made with their permission under licence, ref. FCA6037, which needs to be renewed annually. The licence is due for renewal by 3 May 2017.
