I am a field ecologist, especially interested in the possibilities of a fruitful synthesis of people's experiential ecological knowledge and formal scientific knowledge. I have an instinctive dislike of authority and have been long fascinated by the Wikipedia experiment of the creation of an open community in which all participate on an equal footing.
