- Pakistan is already making the JF17 to counter Rafale domestically. The JF17 is cheaper and fast and more agile than the Rafale. JF 17 is based on Russian MIG and USA F16 and is jointly developed by Pakistan and China. Russia showed some concerns over china and Pakistan duplicating the technology and raised the issue but it dropped the idea as Russia is already supplying the engines for the air crafts. The SU is a mush higher class than even F22 and F35 I have seen the air show and the maneuvers performed by SU no current fighter jet can come close to that. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Friday said that he would take legal recourse if the government finalised the Rafale aircraft deal with France as there were serious shortcomings in the aircraft. Warns PM “If the Prime Minister for some other ‘compulsion’ decides to go ahead with the deal, I will have no option but to approach the court with a PIL plea to set it aside,” he said in a statement. The performance of the French jet “turned out to be worst of all the aircraft” in Libya and Egypt, the BJP leader added. - The CAG report is unhappy about the defence ministry’s repeated demand not to discuss specific prices in the Rafale deal, as not disclosing price was presented as part of the agreement between India and France on the planes. This contention is absurd. There can be no such deal in a democracy where the people’s representatives, Members of Parliament, have to be kept in the dark about the price of equipment they authorise the government to buy. If India enters into a deal that makes such secrecy necessary, that would be wrong. The Indo-French agreement does not, in fact, forbid disclosure of price. The security agreement legally binds the parties to “protect classified information that could impact the security and operational capabilities of the defence equipment of India or France.” Is price the kind of information that can impact security and operational capability? Multiple configurations of avionics and weapons systems could add up to the same price. How would revealing price of the Rafale deal compromise the security and operational capabilities of the defence equipment of India or France?
