ಮುಂಬಯಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ,[೧] ೧೯ ನೆಯ ಶತಮಾನದ ಮಧ್ಯಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ೩ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲೊಂದು. ಈ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಮುಂಬಯಿ ಮಹಾನಗರದ ಕೋಟೆ (Fort) ಪರಿಸರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಇದು, ಬಹಳ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ 'ಮುಂಬಯಿ ಯೂನಿವರ್ಸಿಟಿ' "MU" (for Mumbai University) ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಚಲಿತದಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು.

ಮುಂಬಯಿ ಯುನಿವರ್ಸಿಟಿ[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

'ಮುಂಬಯಿ ಯುನಿವರ್ಸಿಟಿ,' [೨] ಬ್ಯಾಚುಲರ್, ಮಾಸ್ಟರ್ಸ್, ಮತ್ತು ಪಿಎಚ್.ಡಿ ಪದವಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರದಾನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಹಲವಾರು ಡಿಪ್ಲೊಮ ಕೋರ್ಸ್ ಗಳನ್ನು ಹಲವಾರು ಶಾಖೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ವಿಷಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಇಂಗ್ಲೀಷ್ ಭಾಷೆಯಮೂಲಕ ಒದಗಿಸಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟು, ಜ್ಞಾನ ಪ್ರಸಾರಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಕೆಲವು ಖಾಸಗಿ ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳೂ, ಮುಂಬಯಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಅಧೀನದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುತ್ತವೆ. ಮುಂಬಯಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಎರಡು ಕ್ಯಾಂಪಸ್ ಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು, ಮುಂಬಯಿ ಮಹಾನಗರದ ಉಪನಗರವೊಂದಾದ' ಸಾಂತಾಕ್ರೊಜ್' ನ ಕಲೀನಾ ವಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಆಡಳಿತ ಕಚೇರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಮುಂಬಯಿನಗರದಲ್ಲಿನ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಆವರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇವಲ ಆಡಳಿತ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳಿವೆ ಮುಂಬಯಿನ ಹಲವು ವಿಶ್ವ ಮಾನ್ಯತೆಗಳಿಸಿದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಮುಂಬಯಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿವೆ. ಈಗ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಸ್ವಾಯತ್ತತೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದಿವೆ. ಇಲ್ಲವೆ 'ಡೀಮ್ಡ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಸ್ಥಾನಮಾನ' ಗಳಿಸಿವೆ.

ವಿಲ್ಸನ್ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ನ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

'ದ ವಿಲ್ಸನ್ ಕಾಲೇಜ್', ೧೮೩೨ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಬಯಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು. ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷರಿಂದ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಅತಿ ಪುರಾತನ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ಗಳಲ್ಲೊಂದು. ಮುಂಬಯಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಅಸ್ಥಿತ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುವ ಮೊದಲೇ ಸುಮಾರು ಎರಡೂವರೆ ದಶಕಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಈ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ಕೆಲಸಮಾಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ೨೦೦೫ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಕಾಲೇಜಿಗೆ ಸರ್ಟಿಫಿಕೇಟ್ ದೊರೆತಿತ್ತು. ಮುಂಬಯಿ ಉಪನಗರದ 'ಗಿರ್ಗಾಮ್ ಚೌಪಾತಿ'ಯಲ್ಲಿ. ೧೮೮೯ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ಕಟ್ಟಡ 'ಜಾನ್ ಆಡಮ್ಸ್' ನಿರ್ಮಾತ ವಿಕ್ಟೋರಿಯನ್ ಗಾಥಿಕ್ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾನೀಯವಾಗಿ ಗ್ರೇಡ್ ಈಈಈ ಹೆರಿಟೇಜ್ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ. ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ೨೦೧೧ ರಲ್ಲಿ,ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ಹೈಯರ್ ಸೆಕೆಂಡರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪದವಿಪೂರ್ವ ತರಗತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಹಲವಾರು ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಿತ್ತು. ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಸಹಾಯಕ ವಿಷಯಗಳು ಸೇರಿದ್ದವು. ಕಲೆ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಜ್ಞಾನವಲ್ಲದೆ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಧನದಿಂದ ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು ಜಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದವು. ವಿವರಗಳು :

ಐತಿಹ್ಯ[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

ಮುಂಬಯಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ, ೧೮೫೭ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು. 'ಮುಂಬಯಿ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಶನ್ನಿನ ಮನವಿ'ಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಆಗಿನ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಸರಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ, 'ಸರ್ ಚಾರ್ಲ್ಸ್ ವುಡ್' ಎನ್ನುವವರು ೧೮೫೪ ರಲ್ಲಿ, ಬರೆದ ಪತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುವ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿಷದವಾಗಿ ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಬ್ರಿಟನ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಮಾದರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ, ಲಂಡನ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಆಶಯ ಅವರದಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಮುಂಬಯಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ 'ಎಲ್ಫಿನ್ ಸ್ಟೋನ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಆರ್ಟ್ಸ್ ವಿಶಯ'ಕ್ಕೆ ೧೮೩೫ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅನುದಾನ ದೊರೆಯಿತು. ಗ್ರಾಂಟ್ ಮೆಡಿಕಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮೆಡಿಸಿನ್ ವಿಶಯಕ್ಕೆ ೧೮೪೫ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅನುದಾನ ದೊರೆಯಿತು. ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಒಡಮೂಡುವ ಮೊದಲೇ ಹೊಸ ವಿ.ವಿ.ಕ್ಕೆ ಪದವಿ ಪ್ರದಾನಮಾಡುವ ಅವಕಾಶಗಳನ್ನು ವಾಪಸ್ ಮಾಡಿತು. ೧೮೬೨ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ಪದವಿ ಬ್ಯಾಚುಲರ್ ಆಫ್ ಆರ್ಟ್ಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮೆಡಿಸಿನ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಡಿಪ್ಲೊಮ ಕೋರ್ಸ್ ಗಳಿವೆ. ಮುಂಬಯಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಆಫೀಸ್ ಗಳು ಕೋಟೆ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿರುವ 'ಟೌನ್ ಹಾಲ್' ನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದವು. ೧೯೦೪ ರ ವರೆಗೆ, ವಿ.ವಿ ಕೇವಲ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವ ಮತ್ತು ಸೇರಿದ ಗಳಿಗೆ ಪಠ್ಯ ಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರದಾನಮಾಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಬೋಧನಾ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳು, ಸಂಶೋಧನಾ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಪದವಿಯೋತ್ತರ ವಿಶಯಗಳು ನಂತರ ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಯಾದವು. ಸಮಾಜ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಪೌರ ನೀತಿ ಸ್ಕೂಲ್ ಗಳು, ರಾಜಕೀಯ, ಮೊದಲಾದ ವಿಷಯಗಳು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳು. ೧೯೪೭, ನಂತರ, ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಅಧಿಕಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾರ್ಯಭಾರಕ್ರಮ ಪುನರೀಕೃತಗೊಂಡು ೧೯೫೩ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾನೂನು ಹೊರಡಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

ಯೂನಿವರ್ಸಿಟಿ ಆಫ್ ಮುಂಬಯಿ[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ ೪, ೧೯೯೬ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ಸರಕಾರ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಗೆಝೆಟಿಯರ್ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ‘ಯೂನಿವರ್ಸಿಟಿ ಆಫ್ ಮುಂಬಯಿ’ಯಿಂದ ‘ಯೂನಿವರ್ಸಿಟ್ ಆಫ್ ಮುಂಬಯಿ’[೩] ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರು ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.[೪]

  • ೧೯೪೯, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ನೊಂದಣಿ ೪೨,೨೭೨ ಸುಮಾರು ೮೦ ಪ್ರತಿಶತ್ ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳಿಂದ
  • ೧೯೭೫, ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆದು ೧೫೬,೧೯೦ ಮತ್ತು ೧೧೪ ಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿತು.

ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಎರಡು ಆವರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

ಕಲಿನಾ ಕ್ಯಾಂಪಸ್[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

ಮುಂಬಯಿನಗರದ ಸಾಂತಾಕ್ರೂಝ್ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ೨೩೦ ಎಕರೆ (೯೩೦,೭೭೭ ಚ.ಮೀ.) ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣವುಳ್ಳ ಪರಿಸರಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಕಲಿನಾದಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಗ್ರಾಜುಯೇಟ್ ಟ್ರೇನಿಂಗ್’ ಮತ್ತು ‘ಸಂಶೋಧನ ಕೇಂದ್ರ’ಗಳಿವೆ. ಸೈನ್ಸ್, ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ, ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕೊಡುವ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳಿವೆ. ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳು, ಮತ್ತು ಮೆಡಿಸಿನ್ ಪ್ರಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳು ಖಾಸಗಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿವೆ. ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ಸ್ವಂತ ಮೆಡಿಸಿನ್, ಅಥವಾ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಪ್ರಭಾಗಗಳಿಲ್ಲ.

ಕೋಟೆ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕ್ಯಾಂಪಸ್[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

  • Jawaharlal Nehru Library, Examination House, also known as Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Bhavan. It houses the office of the Controller of Examinations.
  • Garware Institute of Career Education and Development. It offers courses including one in medical transcription and management courses such as agriculture business management,
  • pharma management and tourism management.
  • MUST (मस्त) FM, the campus radio station of the university operates from here at 107.8 MHz.
  • Alkesh Dinesh Mody Numismatic Museum. It displays currency from around the world belonging to many periods.
  • Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute for Financial and Management Studies (ADMI). It offers BMS, MFSM and MMS programmes.
  • Department of Extramural Studies. It conducts weekend courses in many disciplines including astronomy, astrophysics,
  • plant and animal taxonomy,
  • hobby robotics,
  • hobby electronics.
  • The Institute of Distance & Open Learning (IDOL) offers distance learning courses in humanities, sciences, commerce, computer science, and information technology,
  • Western Regional Instrumentation Centre (WRIC) is a research and training facility for instrumentation engineering and science.
  • Centre for African Studies
  • Centre for Eurasian Studies
  • A rose garden where more than a hundred varieties of rose have been cultivated.
  • Marathi Bhasha Bhavan Centre for learning the Marathi language conducts academic activities and cultural activities associated with the language.

ಯೂನಿವರ್ಸಿಟಿ ಆಫ್ ಮುಂಬಯಿ[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

ಮುಂಬಯಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ್ದ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕೋಟೆ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ೧೮೫೭ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಬಯಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಆಡಳಿತ ಕಚೇರಿಗಳಿವೆ. ಆ ಕಟ್ಟಡಗಳನ್ನು ಗಾಥಿಕ್ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಟ್ಟಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕ್ಯಾಂಪಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಹುಲ್ಲಿನಮೇಲೆ ರಾಜಾಬಾಯಿ ಗಡಿಯಾರ ಗೋಪುರವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ರಾಜಾಬಾಯಿ ಗಡಿಯಾರದ ಗೋಪುರ[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

ಮುಂಬಯಿನಗರದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ವಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸ್ಥಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜಾಬಾಯಿ ಗಡಿಯಾರದ ಗೋಪುರದ ಕಟ್ಟಡವೂ ಸೇರಿದೆ.[೫] ಆ ಗೋಪುರದ ಕಟ್ಟಡದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಭಂಡಾರವಿದೆ. ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಕಟ್ಟಡ ಶಿಲ್ಪಿ, ಸರ್ ಜಾರ್ಜ್ ಗಿಲ್ಬರ್ಟ್ ಸ್ಕಾಟ್ ರವರ ಯೋಜನೆಯಂತೆ, ೧೮೭೦ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಟ್ಟಡ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಮುಕ್ತಾಯವಾಯಿತು. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಗೋಪುರವನ್ನು ಲಂಡನ್ ನಗರದ ಬಿಗ್ ಬೆನ್ ಗಡಿಯಾರ ಗೋಪುರದ ಮಾದರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮುಂಬಯಿನಗರದ ಆಗಿನಕಾಲದ ವಿಖ್ಯಾತ ಹತ್ತಿ ವರ್ತಕ ಪ್ರೇಮ್ ಚಂದ್ ರಾಯ್ ಚಂದ್, ತಮ್ಮ ತಾಯಿ ರಾಜಾಬಾಯಿಯವರ ನೆನಪಿಗಾಗಿ ಗಡಿಯಾರ ಗೋಪುರವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದರು. ೨೮೦ ಅಡಿ ಎತ್ತರ, ೫ ಅಂತಸ್ತಿನ ೩೦ ಅಡಿ ಭೂಮಿಯಿಂದ ಗೋಪುರದ ಹಂತಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ ಜಾತಿಪದ್ಧತಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬಿಸುವ ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆ ೮ ಪುಥಳಿಗಳು ಕಟ್ಟಡದ ಮೇಲ್ಗಡೆ ಸಂರಚಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿವೆ. ಗಡಿಯಾರದ ಅಲಾರಾಂ ಘಂಟೆ ರೂಲ್ ಬ್ರಿಟಾನಿಯವೂ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ, ೧೬ ಟ್ಯೂನ್ ಗಳನ್ನು ಬಾರಿಸುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಈಗ ಘಂಟಾನಾದ ಕೆಲವೇ ರಾಗಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರದ ರತ್ನಾಗಿರಿ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿನ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ‘ಎಕ್ಸ್ಟ್ರಾ ಮ್ಯೂರಲ್' ಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಮಾಹಿತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೋಧಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನಗಳು[ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ]

'UDCT', ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಡೀಮ್ಡ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲ್ಯವಾಗಿ ರೂಪುಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. 'Tata Memorial Hospital' ಈಗ ಹೋಮಿ ಭಾಭಾ ನ್ಯಾಷನಲ್ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ ಗೆ ಸೇರಿದೆ. 'ಸೇಂಟ್ ಜೇವಿಯರ್ ಕಾಲೇಜ್', ಮೊದಲು ಪದವಿ ಪ್ರದಾನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಅಧೀನದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ೨೦೦೯ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ವಾಯತ್ತತೆ ದೊರೆಯಿತು. ಸರಕಾರೀ ಲಾ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ಲಾ ಗವರ್ನಮೆಂಟ್ ಅಧೀನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಮುಂಬಯಿ ಅತಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ವಿದ್ಯಾಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದೆ. Mumbai ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದ ನಂತರ, ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿ ತ್ಯುತ್ ಆಫ್ ಕೆಮಿಕಲ್ ತೆಕ್ನೋಲೋಜಿ ವಿಶ್ವದಲ್ಲೇ ೪ ನೆಯ ಹೆಸರುವಾಸಿಯಾದ ಕೆಮಿಕಲ್ ಇಮ್ಗಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾ (ಸತತವಾಗಿ ೫ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ) ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಾಗಿರುವುದನ್ನು 'ಜಾರ್ಜಿಯ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿ ತ್ಯುತ್ ಆಫ್ ತೆಕ್ನೋಲೋಜಿ' ಯ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕ, ಜೂಡ್ ಸಾಮರ್ ಫಿಲ್ಡ್ ೨೦೧೧ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದು ಡೀಮ್ಡ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಸ್ಥಾನಮಾನ ಗಳಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಮುಂಬಯಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಮ್ಯಾನೆಜ್ ಮೆಂಟ್ ಸ್ಟಡೀಸ್ ವಿಭಾಗ (ದ ಜಮ್ನಾಲಾಲ್ ಬಜಾಜ್ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ ಆಫ್ ಮ್ಯಾನೆಜ್ಮೆಂಟ್ ಸ್ಟಡೀಸ್ ಸತತವಾಗಿ ಭಾರತದ 10 ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಮ್ಯಾನೆಜ್ಮೆಂಟ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನಗಳಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಈ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ 1965 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಮೇರಿಕಾದ ಸ್ಟಾನ್ಫರ್ಡ್ ಗ್ರಾಜುಯೇಟ್ ಸ್ಕೂಲ್ ಆಫ್ ಬಿಜಿನೆಸ್ ಆಫ್ ಸ್ಟಾನ್ ಫರ್ಡ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಆಶ್ರಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು. ಯುನಿವರ್ಸಿಟಿ ಆಫ್ ಮುಂಬಯಿಯ ಕೆಲವು ವಿಭಾಗಗಳು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಮುಂಬಯಿನ ಕೋಟೆಪ್ರದೇಶಲ್ಲಿ, ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂತಾಕ್ರುಝ್ ನ ಕಾಲಿನಾ ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಇತರ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿವೆ. ಅವುಗಳ ಹೆಸರು ಹೀಗಿವೆ :

  • Internationally, the University of Mumbai was ranked 41 among Top 50 engineering schools in the world by Business Insider in the year 2012 and was the only university in the list from the five emerging BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).[21]
  • It was ranked 3rd best university in Asia in terms of graduate students as percentage of total students[22] and the 2nd best Multi Disciplinary University in India[23] by Asiaweek in the list of Aisa's best Universities 2000 ; with 8 of the top 10 Indian universities in Asiaweek's list being purely Science and Technology Universities.
  • In the year 2013 the University of Mumbai ranked fifth[24] in the list of top ten best universities in India by India Today.
  • It was ranked at 62 in the QS BRICS University rankings for 2013, a ranking of leading universities in the five BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).[25]
